Manuela Vásquez Guayasamín
Manuela Vásquez Guayasamín is a filmmaker and visual artist from Quito, Ecuador, born in 1996. In 2015 she began her studies in Cinema and Video at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ).
As for her personal craft, her first fiction short film, “Mom Jeans” (2018), was part of La Orquídea Cuenca (Ecuadorian short films competition) and EQUIS Feminist Film Festival. In 2021, she would be part again of the EQUIS film festival with her short film “Growing up is as dangerous as leaving a razor blade unsupervised”, which was also screened in numerous festivals around the world, such as CineFem Uruguay (Official Short Films Competition), New York City’s Female Voices Rock Film Festival and Ireland’s HER International Film Festival 2021, where it won Best International Short Film.
She is currently based in Brussels, eager to continue exploring coming-of-age stories in film or other forms. This year she completed a filmmaking master’s degree from LUCA School of Arts with the short movie “2 online, 2 soon.”
