Quebec makes horror out of what it has. Basements, dépanneurs, snowbanks, a camcorder and a free weekend. The province turns out genre shorts at a rate that has nothing to do with its size, and most of them surface for one festival night in Montréal and then vanish.
This is where they live instead. Anniversaire de Marde and 418-555-JUNK sit next to Pit of Blood and Le Nid de la Veuve Noire. Some of it is horror played straight. A lot of it is exploitation with a Québécois accent, or trashy fun made purely for the pleasure of it. Everything streams free, most of it sent in by the people who shot it.
