| Valerie Leclair & Yohann Thiou Valérie Leclair Valérie Leclair worked as a self-taught actress and film set technician before discovering her talent for directing. After graduating from Collège O’Sullivan in Montreal in 2008, she combined all her skills to create various comedic projects. In 2015, she joined the Kino Montréal collective and wrote her first scripts. With a passion for genre films, Valérie stands out as a screenwriter, particularly for her comedic timing. Her desire to take on more acting roles led her to bring her own ideas to life without any constraints! With determination and hard work, Valérie directed the short film BACKSTORE (2017) and co-directed A NIGHTMARE ON CHOCOLATE (2019) with Yohann Thiou. ©Émilie Lapointe Her fantasy-comedy BEST BITCHES FOREVER (2019) won the SPIRA (Vidéo Femmes) Award at Les Fantastiques Week-ends du Cinéma Québécois during the 2020 Fantasia International Film Festival. That same year, Valérie was accepted into the École Nationale de l’Humour for television screenwriting. She graduated with a scholarship and a special mention for her exceptional creativity. In 2021, she was approached to direct the 2022 trailer for the Kino Montréal collective. As with her other projects, she also took charge of artistic direction to fully capture her colorful vision. Valérie continues her acting career while currently working on the script for her first feature film. Yohann Thiou Yohann has carved out a place in the world of independent Quebec cinema through a unique and empathetic approach to storytelling. A child of the ’80s born a decade later, Yohann graduated from the Institut des Métiers de la Communication et de l’Audiovisuel in Avignon. They are also trained in multi-platform writing and have completed a television screenwriting program with Média Ranch and Québécor. Yohann’s imagination draws inspiration from both genre cinema and mumblecore films. With several short films and one feature film selected and awarded at over forty festivals worldwide, Yohann has many more stories to tell. |
