Souvenir
Synopsis
EVERT returns from boarding school to find his childhood home in a state of neglect. His father MARK is sick in bed. Evert goes to his room and plays an online video game with his friend ANDRIES where they kill vampires together. Andries asks him how things have been since his mother died, but Evert avoids answering. At breakfast, Evert notices a strange wound on his father's neck. As Mark sleeps, a menacing shadow is seen hovering over him. The next day, Mark finds something strange beside his bed: a small dead caterpillar. In his father's bedroom, Evert comes across a strange wooden statue of a pregnant woman in pain. It's a souvenir that Mark bought for Evert on a trip to Romania. Evert puts the statue in his bedroom. Slime sticks to the back of the statue and, at night, it seems to rustle. At the back of the statue there is a crack from which a caterpillar is escaping. The next day, Evert isn't feeling very well, but the party he had planned with his friends goes ahead. Mark discovers some kind of big bat hiding in his room. Mark beats the beast to death against the wall. The next day, Mark is feeling better, while Evert lies exhausted in bed. On top of him, a similar bat is sucking his blood. More caterpillars emerge from the wooden sculpture, and once they have hatched, they will continue to drain Evert of his blood.
