Fabrice HOURLIER - director portrait

Fabrice HOURLIER

Fabrice Hourlier began his career as a television director after creating his first short film, Klone, a work deeply influenced by retrofuturistic and steampunk aesthetics. In 1990, this short film, shot on a green screen with computer-generated backgrounds, reflected his passion for innovative visual universes. After dedicating 15 years to directing television programs, he transitioned to docufictions, a unique genre that blends historical narrative with immersive storytelling. His first success in this field, Trafalgar, was also produced using green screen technology with digital sets. It aired on ARTE in 2006 and earned the Innovation and Technology Prize at the HD Festival. Following this, Fabrice directed around fifteen docufictions, solidifying his expertise in the genre. Concurrently, he co-authored and directed the popular D’art d’art show on France Télévisions, hosted by Frédéric Taddeï. Now at a pivotal moment in his career, Fabrice feels an overwhelming desire to return to his first passion: pure fiction. Enthralled by the retrofuturistic and steampunk worlds, he has long dreamt of bringing to life a project close to his heart. With determination, he embarks on a new journey, presenting his short film Apocalypse Immortel. This project perfectly encapsulates his ambition to push the boundaries of creativity and reimagine storytelling with a retrofuturistic visual style.
