SDFF is committed to keeping submission costs as low as possible. We’re not trying to make money off struggling filmmakers. Check out the submission costs for yourself and you’ll see how accessible it is to have the chance to be part of the festival. What kinds of films get chosen? Nothing is off the table at SDFF. Every genre is welcome; however, the entries that seem to do well so far are art films, documentaries, animations, and dramas. But every festival has also seen poetry, horror, sci-fi, thriller, comedy and everything in between. What matters, above anything else, is your film’s ability to spark interesting conversations. There’s only have 2 rules… 1. All films must be 20 minutes max. 2. Any film not in English must have subtitles. That’s it. No restrictions on genre, theme, or gear, it just needs to be interesting. What to expect… SDFF is an independent film festival with a focus on films that spark deep thought and discussion. Unlike other film festivals, SDFF isn’t trying to create false competition between filmmakers, but instead give filmmakers with something to say a place to say it.
