Amy DePaola - director portrait

Amy DePaola

Comedy and dramedy, Director and writer Amy DePaola focuses on tenderizing stories that find humor in dark times and uncomfortable moments. Drawn to characters that are outsiders grappling with relationships, identity, and growth, her background in acting has given her a knack for finding grounded performances within unexpected, unusual circumstances and heightened worlds. She began her directing career with a self-titled short, "AmyDee," about her journey into the sport of boxing. She also starred and fought her first amateur fight for the film, keeping all of her teeth in the process. Proving that as a director, she's ready to dodge all the punches - and will do whatever it takes for the shot. Amy is a 2023 Blackmagic Collective Future Women of TV Directing Fellow, a 2023 Yes And Laughter Lab Finalist, and Stowe TV Writers Lab Finalist. She is a producing member of the Television Academy and has the Excel sheets to prove it. Her production credits include working with Participant Media, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and The CW, to name a few. She has an MFA from Emerson College and studied at The Groundlings. Ask her about her integral role in Joe Jonas’ first-ever stand-up comedy show. Originally from a land laden with white table-cloth Italian restaurants (Jersey), Amy is five-foot-one with a tall personality. She’s an avid East Coast Hip Hop fan but now resides in Los Angeles, where she deals with the loss of bodega culture by cozying up to the company of her husband and their pup, Ruby. www.amydepaola.com
