Alex Rowan Cattell

Born in Berkeley to space physicists, Cattell moved to the thriving theater town of Minneapolis as a kid. She initially embraced acting, but her professors told her she had an unusual talent as a director after she wrote, directed, and played Satan in a stage adaptation of THE MASTER AND MARGARITA, where she and her team set a copy of FAHRENHEIT 451 on fire and also a theater department stairwell. She skirted the science fiction and fantasy literary world, briefly played lead guitar in a Jewish metal band, and translated medieval mythic epics while also shooting shorts and music videos. Her work focuses on queer identity and disability, preferably in the weirdest way possible. Fall 2020 finds her workshopping her hoped first feature, the melancholy apocalyptic ALWAYS SPRING, with the Sundance Co//ab feature directing program.
