Oved Poran

Oved Poran is a stop motion animation creator based in Tel Aviv, israel.

Oved’s short films consist of traditional stop motion puppet animation dealing with subjects including the human condition, death, and scientific fields such as archeology.
The scenes are visually rich with textures, dark and contrast scenery such as decaying rusty ships or mouldy caves. With puppets characterised by greasy dirty clothes or shabby canvas garment among other materials.

Since childhood Oved's lifelong dream was creating animation in this technique and he followed that dream into the animation department in the Bezalel academy of Art and Design in jerusalem. There he created his first short films “Turned Bed” co created with Orit Oged and “Above and Below” co created with Liron Narusny that became Oved’s creative partner in many following projects.

After school Oved found employment in other adjacent creative fields like post production, art for films, video editing and art teaching, never forgetting his initial passion for stop motion and always working towards finding funding for a large scale stop motion project.

This became reality in 2018 when Makor Fund for Film and Television funded Oveds’ debut film `Apart’, a short film based on the hazardous occupation of ship breaking and the theme of a loss of a father. With additional funding from Mifal Hapayis, Israel's state lottery and Together with Liron Narusnky as lead animator, Oved produced ‘Apart’ for the next 4 years. Releasing it in the year of 2023.
